Prince's Walk is a circular walk following an avenue of trees planted to commemorate the week that Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed at Kinlochmoidart House when he launched the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion. The walk passes through beautiful woodland and beside a secluded 19th-century church.

The 'Road to the Isles' connects Fort William to the Skye ferry at Mallaig. From Fort William take the A82 (stop to view Neptune's Staircase at Banavie - a flight of 8 locks, part of the Caledonian Canal). This is a scenic countryside route 46 miles long. Turn left on A830 which leads to the end of the road at Mallaig. This route passes the Glenfinnan Monument, sandy beaches, and beautiful coastline before it reaches Mallaig, where you can catch a ferry to the Isle of Skye.

Rogie Falls is a lovely waterfall on Black Water, near Contin, where a suspension bridge over the river provides one of the best places in Scotland to watch the annual salmon migration. Waymarked trails lead through beautiful woodland to the waterfalls. Excellent for autumn colours.

One of the most remote and beautiful beaches in Britain, Sandwood Bay is a four-mile walk from the nearest road. The location is superb, with a pristine sandy beach stretching for over a mile in a broad curve, a sea stack at one end and machair grassland bordering a freshwater loch on the landward side. Sandwood is one of the most magical natural environments in Scotland.

A short - and lovely - walk from Birsay brings you to a restored 19th-century fisherman's hut built into the side of a cliff. Deep grooves in the ground called 'nousts' or 'noasts' show where fishermen drew their boats up high onto the shore for protection.
